Wrath of the Righteous 3, #4: The Cult

During a missing chapter of our tale, our entombed heroes proceeded toward the bad mongrelman tribe, to neutralize them and earn their way to the surface. The wizard Oska Svoskhut recounts some of what happened and takes up scribing duties. (-GM)

20th day of Sarenith, 4728 AR

Mongrelman

We knew the mongrelmen waited just on the other side of the rise. Chief Sull knew it too, for he and his people laid low, waiting for someone to come and save them. And we came. Of course, we had come at the correct time, right at the stalemate between the cancered people of Neathholm and the Baphomet worshippers. We got our bearings and set off over the rise towards the unfriendly tribe of mongrelmen. Of course, the gate was barred, so we tried to bluff our way past the guards. That didn’t end well. Just take my word for it. You didn’t want to see all the bodies strewn across the cavern. Past the barricade, there was a tunnel.

Once we were inside, we made our way through the cave system, with a few scuffles with cultists along the way. Soon enough, we were deep in the heart of the cave system. It was dark, so our torches were essential to our survival. There was a hole in the ground, so we decided to explore it. Jinx hopped down, but misjudged the distance and landed flat on his face. As did I, but WWYWMB (I will whack you wit mah bo) made it safe and sound to the floor. It was a tough battle. Iron scraped against iron and magical balls of light flew through the air. After much scuffling, everyone was splayed on the floor except for the blind man, Aravashnial. He fought heroically. Soon enough, and with the help of multiple potions of healing, we were back on our feet, and once again, cultists bodies riddled the floor.

The leader had a note that hinted that they were part of a greater design. (See below.)

Wrath of the Righteous 3, #2: Beneath the Earth

In the unwritten first chapter of our tale, our heroes were celebrating the completion of their Crusader training when a great cataclysm befell the border town of Kenabres. The city’s stalwart leadership were slain by a balor demon and other lieutenants of the Worldwound, sending our heroes into a chasm with the blessing of Kenabres’ silver-dragon guardian, Terendelev. The Fifth Crusade has begun.

17th day of Sarenith, 4728 AR

there were these really annoying giant cockroaches that were actually really strong and hard to kill.

It was the morning of the 2nd day of adventuring, and we had just woken up inside of Torag’s temple after a hard day. We had heard that the temple, if clean, would protect its inhabitants with some kind of magical enchantment, so we cleaned it up the day before, and in the morning, it felt as if we were under the enchantment of bless.

The day before, there were these really annoying giant cockroaches that were actually really strong and hard to kill, and during the night and in the morning, there had been some scratching and chewing noises coming from outside the temple, and the entire party thought that it must be some kind of animal trying to get in but failing because the temple was protecting us. So, we all went outside and found nothing, but the sound was coming from outside of the cave where the temple was. We walked out, and I peered around the corner, and there was, just as like we had expected, a small creature burying into a small depression in the rock, I thought it might be some kind of hole where an animal might live. I started singing, and Will Whack hit it with his bow, and after a little bit of fighting, we killed the vile beast.

Wrath of the Righteous 3, #1: Descent

Herein lies the lost chapter telling the humble beginnings of our MYTHIC heroes! (-Someone far in the future)

15th day of Sarenith, 4728 AR

Day 1:

After the written exam came the real test…

My field instructor at the Crusader Academy told me to keep a journal on all my adventures in the Crusades, and since today is our last day I think it fitting to do it now. I obviously can’t write in here during the test but before and after is fine.

Okay, I just finished the written exam and now it’s time for the real test, combat!

Our group of students was led out of the building by one of the instructors. We made our way to the middle of the field. The instructor began casting a spell, and 4 seconds later a demon appeared. We were all quite surprised at its sudden appearance, but it was rather weak and the 5 of us disposed of it quickly. Everybody clapped after all the groups had finished slaying the abominations.

Day 2:

Everybody was chipper and ready to receive their diploma. True greatness lay beyond in the lands outside the protected cities, where the Crusades endlessly battled demons and whatever hellspawn that came out of that wretched hole. The ceremony was set for 3 pm, so we had time to put on our fancy hats and “freshen up.”

Wrath of the Righteous 2, #3: Clawing Out to Kenabres

Last post in this campaign

17th of Arodus, 4718 AR

Just when I was about to make the final blow, the spider attacked me and I was almost dead, bleeding like crazy.

So there I was. Helpless and didn’t know much. Came back from a time out of the adventure. I was confused at the beginning but then I knew where we were.

Down under Kenabres. Come on. We fell just because of a fight. We seemed to be left off near a dwarf. An annoying one. I didn’t know much about him. So after that, we found a chest filled with cool stuff. I got an invincibility potion. Then we continued on.

But only me (Tamaru) and Nlarktor wanted to continue. We were both at the front and the rest followed. But suddenly, we found a giant spider.

It was up on the ceiling so I couldn’t reach it with a greataxe. So I used my shortbow A.K.A the weapon with no extra damage. I thought of many ways to do damage with my Greataxe like using it as an arrow and shoot it with my bow. The greataxe was too heavy so I couldn’t hit him with my greataxe.

Wrath of the Righteous 1, #14: Drenched in Gore

Yet more blood is splattered, as our heroes delve further into the Gray Garrison — the demon invaders’ beachhead in Kenabres — to destroy the wardstone and strike a blow to their plans of conquest. After clearing the first floor and piling up corpses of tieflings, cultists, and demons, they decided to rest in one of the Garrison’s rooms…

Rudis was up again. In the short time he had to take in his surroundings he saw the entire party except him and Hayaku were unconscious…

Rudis was awakened suddenly by a prod to the shoulder. Hayaku was quietly walking around the room waking all of the group. He sat up. He could hear quiet voices outside.

It didn’t seem to be Common. He stood, and cautiously walked to the door to put his ear to the wood. They seemed to be speaking Abyssal.

But then Mozilla, still half awake said loudly, “What’s going on?.”

The voices outside turned to footsteps in their direction. Then the door burst open, and the battle began with Rudis’ fist hitting flesh.

But then with a flash and a flurry of cloaks Rudis fell unconscious… then he was up again. In the short time he had to take in his surroundings he saw the entire party except him and Hayaku were unconscious. Rudis got one punch in then was down again… then up. 3. 4. 5. punches hit but then down again…

When he finally woke up, he found the rest of the group getting nursed back to health by Hayaku who had 2 black eyes, a gash across his back, and only 4 fingers on his left hand (the missing finger seemed to be in the far corner of the room, quietly leaking blood into the corner of Sophia’s sleeping bag). Once the party was healed up they set off again.

Wrath of the Righteous 2, #2: Déjà Doom

17th of Arodus, 4718 AR

A non-defensive, idiotic, spoiled rich moron that was bribing everyone to do his bidding which is stupid because where in this pitiful pit is there going to be a place where one could buy something?

I was miserable. We were just about to join a holy crusade when these overpowered demons showed up and painfully blasted us down a creepy pit with no return! This is more or less exactly what happened to me 51 years ago on a smaller scale!

Why didn’t I foresee this? Why didn’t I listen to the dreams I’ve been having for the past decade of this exact situation happening and the voice of Iomedae saying, “Whatever you do, don’t do what you just did in this dream”? Why? WHY?

At times like this, when one is awash with regret, it’s hard to remember anything good.

I was stuck in this wretched pit with 5 non-defensive idiots that I knew, 1 non-defensive idiot that I didn’t know, a non-defensive blind guy, and a non-defensive, idiotic, spoiled rich moron that was bribing everyone to do his bidding which is stupid because where in this pitiful pit is there going to be a place where one could buy something? Idiots. Just when I was focusing all of my willpower on not thinking, “Could this get any worse” these weird leech-like things that fell from the ceiling attacked us. We defeated them, wandered around, slept in some shrine, and wandered around some more. In short, I’m in a pit surrounded by idiots and I can’t get out.

Signing off,

Nlarktor

Wrath of the Righteous 2, #1: How to Join the Crusades, Book One

A new campaign begins, as our band of heroes meet for the first time and seek to join the Crusades!

The Grandmaster

16th of Arodus, 4718 AR

The guard wouldn’t let us in because everyone was chiming in while another was talking. Finally, one of the commanders, Irabeth Tirabade, told the guards to let us in.

Staetalevich, Edenias, and I (Evxan) were traveling to Kenabres and somehow ended up at a huge crater. There were three other adventurers there that I didn’t know. They were named Tamaru, Vyenta, and Nlarktor. After Edenias jumped into the crater and started making dirt angels, I showed off my Riftwarden skills and found out that the crater was a weak spot between the planes.

(Now, the investigator is me. Edenias has nothing on me.)

As soon as I found that out, I cast enlarge person on Tamaru thinking something would happen to the spell. When Tamaru was huge and nothing happened, three of my own kind (tieflings) came out of nowhere and attacked us.

Wrath of the Righteous 1, #11: Blood and Bowels

Hayaku, cleric of Sarenrae, recounts their latest accomplishments furthering the Crusade. (Bring an umbrella!)

27th of Arodus, 4727 AR

A loud snap sounds and several cracks appear on his head, blood squirts from the new wounds and suddenly his head combusts, all pieces off his skull flying in all different directions with pieces of brain following shortly after.

My memory is a bit hazy, but the parts I remember are in great detail. (He’s not kidding! -GM)

Ok, so, where should I start? Giant worms, naked bloated people, tieflings? I’ll start from the beginning.

Through the portal of time!

Defenders Heart’s ramshackle walls stood in front of me, since our exhausting mission we have stayed here. It has acted as a safe place, a haven. Although clean, warm, comfortable and exciting as Gram Gram could make it, I still knew that the war isn’t even close to being done, and we had a long way to go…

I walked through a hallway and socialized with the inquisitor a bit, turns out he is injured. I ask what happened and asked if I should heal him. He politely declined and said his injury was a burnt anus, said it felt strangely good and although he couldn’t move he didn’t want heals. I continue down the hallway and spotted Sophia, Ezuri and Rudis talking with the half-orc Tirabade, the light above them made their armor shine with a polished gleam.

I pull a chair up myself and ask “What’s going on? Who wants to destroy the wardstone?” Tirabade looks irritated, seems as if she hates explaining things over again, too bad sucka I think to myself.

“WE have to destroy it,” “Why?huhwhyhuhhuhwhyman”I slur to make her mad.

Wrath of the Righteous 1, #10: Clearing Cultists

kenabres2

After the party obtained the mysterious sword, they read a note giving a password to three cultist hideouts in Kenabres. They brought the Crusaders’ message to the Neathholm mongrelmen that they were welcome to help in the war, and they joined. Back at Defender’s Heart, Irabeth told the party that the rogue who joined them at the beginning of their adventure was actually her wife; the party led Irabeth to her remains. The party cleared one hideout, then helped Irabeth obtain some items from her home she had left for Anevia. But an invisible sorcerer was there searching for Anevia, cast fireball on the party, and got away.

Athos continues our tale…

Thump, rrak, went the earth.
A man, or was it a giant was emerging from the dust.
He had deep purple eyes and was as tall as an elephant.
But the party was not afraid of the giant from beneath, they stood bravely in front of the strangest stranger they had ever seen.
He was silent, and then “RRRRA” he grunted, they took it as a sign of greeting.
The party stepped forward to say hello, but the giant was already joining their ranks.
So off they went to their base, the base of Defenders Heart.
There they found a job, but a job not to be started till the first job was over.
They set off to destroy 2 more forts of 3 but the second was empty, its tower deserted (the first was dealt with a few nights before).
So they considered it done and went to the third, which they conquered and searched for goods.
But beneath they found an evil shrine, they asked the defeated imprisoned leader what to make of it, but he killed himself, by head-butting the alter, instead of saying what he knew.
But they did find some information in that god forsaken tower and they showed it to those at Defenders Heart, when they had time.

Razor Coast 2, #19: The Weresharknado in Full Spin

Previous post in this campaign

17th day of Arodus, 4713 AR

I thought, “That was easy, took out their leader already. Then, 3 weresharks and this Huge one burst out of the water.

While the battle against the 3 weresharks outside the orphanage continued, the situation was looking bad for us. Until the ankylosaurus appeared. He was demolishing a wereshark while me, Nlishgar, Sarisa, Kelnar and Gwenelyth took out the other two. As the ankylosaurus took the last one down with a skull crushing tail slap, a psycho kid yellered (more like screamed) “She did it, she did it, she set it on fire!”

So into the building we went, and there was a girl on the second floor, with black eyes. After defeating her, she said, “It wasn’t the right time.” Whatever that means.

We used some black powder to blow up the place, and I considered giving the orphans some swords. We went to a store and tried to get some silver weapons, but his prices were way too high. I should have killed him. Kelnar wanted to go to the magic shop Sagacious Samuel’s, and we all agreed.

Out front was a kung-fu wereshark taking on a couple of dragoons. We went after the wereshark, and just before Nlishgar killed it, Kelnar was having some constipation issues (by constipation issues I mean him not being able to take a poo after he airwalked above the kung-fu wereshark). After Kelnar got his business done, we tried to get into the shop.
