Wrath of the Righteous 1, #14: Drenched in Gore

17 Jul

Yet more blood is splattered, as our heroes delve further into the Gray Garrison — the demon invaders’ beachhead in Kenabres — to destroy the wardstone and strike a blow to their plans of conquest. After clearing the first floor and piling up corpses of tieflings, cultists, and demons, they decided to rest in one of the Garrison’s rooms…

Rudis was up again. In the short time he had to take in his surroundings he saw the entire party except him and Hayaku were unconscious…

Rudis was awakened suddenly by a prod to the shoulder. Hayaku was quietly walking around the room waking all of the group. He sat up. He could hear quiet voices outside.

It didn’t seem to be Common. He stood, and cautiously walked to the door to put his ear to the wood. They seemed to be speaking Abyssal.

But then Mozilla, still half awake said loudly, “What’s going on?.”

The voices outside turned to footsteps in their direction. Then the door burst open, and the battle began with Rudis’ fist hitting flesh.

But then with a flash and a flurry of cloaks Rudis fell unconscious… then he was up again. In the short time he had to take in his surroundings he saw the entire party except him and Hayaku were unconscious. Rudis got one punch in then was down again… then up. 3. 4. 5. punches hit but then down again…

When he finally woke up, he found the rest of the group getting nursed back to health by Hayaku who had 2 black eyes, a gash across his back, and only 4 fingers on his left hand (the missing finger seemed to be in the far corner of the room, quietly leaking blood into the corner of Sophia’s sleeping bag). Once the party was healed up they set off again.

Hayaku looking not only more self-confident but more powerful too. They reached a door. Rudis kicked it down to reveal 5 zombies with bellies that looked like they had been ripped apart by the most savage beasts that you could think of. Their intestines trailed out into a bowl at the far side of the room, and other assorted organs scattered across the room as though they had fallen out of the not-quite-alive creatures.

Rudis recognized some of them from the bodies of his foes. Rudis ran to the nearest one and drove his fist again and again into the abomination’s belly. Then there was a squelch and a SNAP. as Rudis’ fist drove the monster’s arm out of its socket and through the air. The blood it would have bled sat dried and still in the undead creature’s veins. The Zombies now defeated (not to mention dead) slumped to the ground at Rudis’ feet.

He felt his skull warp then shatter and there was an explosion of blood, bone and brain covering the entire group. A few seconds later there was another explosion of head bits and bobs.

Rudis looked around. All the other zombies were dead and the group was free to go on their merry way. The next door they came across they decided to send in Sir Toad as a scout. It didn’t help whatsoever because the party had no way to communicate with Sir Toad, so they walked in to find 7 tieflings, most of which were asleep.

Rudis ran to the non-sleeping one and grabbed him. He struggled. Rudis pinned him to the floor. He struggled again. Rudis took both hands off him and punched. He felt his skull warp then shatter and there was an explosion of blood, bone and brain covering the entire group. A few seconds later there was another explosion of head bits and bobs.

Then came a rasping gurgling noise, when Rudis looked around he saw a giant pink worm protruding gruesomely out of an immensely obese man. Rudis started forward but Hayaku got there first, he was sick of it, he stabbed his morningstar into the creature’s belly and ripped out its intestine then started beating the monster with it, each strike leaving a gruesome bruise. And when the monster had fallen Hayaku kept beating the corpse until he was too tired to go on and slumped to the ground exhausted.

Once Hayaku was feeling ready enough to go on, Rudis kicked down the next door to see the most horrifying thing he had ever seen: giant flies, but not just ordinary giant flies. These were giant flies with human faces completely disproportionate to their bodies. Rudis grabbed the middle one, but before he could do anything else the fly opened its human jaws and vomited acid over Rudis. He stumbled back, and as he did so he tore off one of the insect’s wings, then lunged forward and punched it to the ground and ripped off its head.

As Rudis looked around he saw that the other creatures had been dried, liquified, minsted, and shishkabobed.
