Hell’s Rebels #23: Hellknights’ Web

In two (smh) missing chapters of our tale, the party barely got out of the prison alive. The party attacked the guards who were levying heavy tolls at the bridge, raising the rebellious spirit of Kintargans. Barzillai Thrune outlawed the Hellknight Order of the Torrent, and sent out for a detachment of the notorious Order of the Nail. The party found the Order’s leader in exile, Octavio Sabinus, and is now mounting a daring rescue of the Order from jail. –GM

2nd of Sarenith, 4715 AR

Octavio Sabinus

With a few spells and a few flashes of steel, we finished off the last of the guards.  When he had the chance, Octavio grabbed a key off a guard and ran to free his men.  After we finished up with the guards, we went to join him.  Three of his Hellknights were waiting there with him.  We handed them some weapons and they quickly told us that the fourth member of their squad was being tortured by “The Spider” and pointed to a door.

We had just defeated Sabo The Spider, the warden of the prison, so I ran in there ready to treat any wounds needed.  What I found was not what I expected.

Two Velstracs, fiends from the Shadow Plane, waited for me.  Narkwood ran in, going after the first one, with Taka close behind.  I blasted it with a ray of light and it screamed from the power of good behind it.

They had a most unnatural ability to heal themselves and stop themselves from dying unless they had been recently afflicted by good magic or struck with a silver weapon.  The one I struck was instantly jumped upon and killed, though not before it did some damage.

Narkwood coated his weapon in a layer of silver liquid and struck out at the other one.  This one struck fear into our strongest warriors with a single glance.  Narkwood struck her but went down from her blows.  Herald of the Forgotten Forge blasted her with acid as she struck down Octavio.  The acid continued to burn her and she went down.  Just as the last of the silver drained from her veins, Taka stabbed her through the heart, finishing her.

We took a breath as I flushed the poison out of people’s systems.  The rest of the group began exploring the building as I patched everyone up.  They found some things, but they weren’t of much use.  The Hellknights told us that every prisoner that was led into that room didn’t come out alive.

“The Spider”

We quickly left and returned to home base to take care of rebellion business.  We rearranged our leadership and noticed all the new faces that were recruited and noted the few that had left.  We decided to recruit a new team of merchants and promoted Korva Fushi’s team and our group of freedom fighters to thieves and infiltrators.  We also heard news that someone was looking for Narkwood, but we weren’t sure who she was or what she wanted.

We ended the day off in the Tooth and Nail, drinking and listening to the local gossip, some things seemed like looking into like a navy captain discontented by one of Barzillai’s Thrune’s proclamations, but that’s something for tomorrow.

Signing off,

Rappan Athuk #115: Save or Suck

In an unwritten chapter of our heroes’ tale, they fought an evil party that annoyingly aped their most overpowered powerful abilities in combat. They then explore a stairwell down, deep in the megadungeon, that adjoined the massive temple to Orcus they had fought earlier. One wouldn’t know it (ahem!), but they encounter here an elaborate torture room populated by sadistic kytons.

9th day of Sarenith, 4722 AR

Finally, a chance to fight our foes in close combat! For too long have we been thwarted from the shadows by this troupe of turmoil. Countless exploits ruined from afar by these nefarious nemesis, and until now they have not dared to show their faces. I suppose their arrogance has gotten the better of them. They think that they have a chance in the light because they have won in the dark. They are wrong, for the light from the fires of open combat will sear at their treacherous eyes and pierce their skin with a pain matched only by the pain of our hungry steel.

We surrounded them with expert precision, taking care to ensure that no route remained which our rivals could flee to once they realize their doom has arrived. Our enemies, still drunk with their first rush of adrenaline, failed to notice their entrapment until it was too late. They screamed in rage and charged us with weapons levelled, bows drawn, and elf-spells at the ready.

I raised Vox, the great mace that was once the weapon of Maphistal, mighty demonic servant of Orcus himself, before we stole the mace from him and slew him with it. I let loose a guttural roar, filled with the frustration of unsettled scores. I picked out the leader of the band and ran straight toward him, Vox speeding toward a killing blow-

Wait, just kidding. I failed the will save. Now I get to sit in a cage for the rest of the fight.

Signing off,
