Princes of the Apocalypse #15: The Coming Storm

The party continues to its mission protecting traders from Yartar and encounters more cultists in today’s installment. (-GM)

8th of Kythorn, 1491 Dale Reckoning

A group of Crushing Wave cultists were attacking. The leader cast a spell that made it hard to travel and very dark on an area and we all got pissed.

On our next day toward Red Larch, we encountered some human bandits on the bridge. They demanded we pay them a hundred gold pieces or they would kill us. I tried to make them think we were peaceful, but Hypernova walked forward and engaged combat. We all drew weapons and joined the fight. Their superior numbers were flooding over us, but Hypernova cast thunderwave. The remaining enemies fled at this display of raw power, and we continued down the road.

After we guarded the caravan to Red Larch, we decided to strike out towards Rivergard Keep.

We spent the night in a clearing in the woods. Reaper was on watch when he called us to arms. A group of Crushing Wave cultists were attacking. The leader cast a spell that made it hard to travel and very dark on an area and we all got pissed. I used my turn to overclock my speed and made it just out of the area affected. The others threw fireballs and arrows as I stalked the leader, but he saw me and made me paralyzed.

Then his goons killed me, but I was reanimated by some god or another that I hadn’t pissed off by stealing random silver candlesticks. As I woke up, I found that my companions had killed all but one enemy, but he was escaping. I ran and stabbed him for the kill.

Princes of the Apocalypse #14: A Mission for Yartar

After plumbing the depths of the stone monastery, the party decided to take a trip to the city of Yartar. The party necromancer, Reaper, tells their story. (-GM)

4th of Kythorn, 1491 Dale Reckoning

Lalia made contact with Yartar’s thieves guild.

We decided to visit the city of Yartar. Before we left, Lalia and Hypernova bought herbalism kits in the hope of making potions of healing. I bought a poisoner’s kit in the hope of making poisons to make the fighting easier. We were ambushed by an ogre and some orcs. Papyrus did an awesome return-to-sender with a javelin. Papyrus and Hypernova, being elves, did not sleep so they were the first awake. My owl telepathically woke me up. My owl had oil of taggit on its talons so that hurt the orc even though the shocking grasp rebounded on my owl when it tried to shock the orc. The orc fell unconscious.

On the road to Yartar we ran into some earth monks whose monastery we sacked. They had one armored earth warrior. the rest being weaker monks. They had short bows and that was kinda annoying. We need to hire some of the armorsmiths cause they somehow make good armor out of stone when some people can’t make good armor out of metal. When we reached Yartar, Lalia found a thieves guild and we bought a potion of greater healing. We agreed to help a caravan deliver their goods. They kept being attacked by bandits.

This might just have been me losing consciousness, but the fire cultist started to blur…

In the middle of the night, some fire cultists attacked us. I used enlarge person on Papyrus and he was dropping cultists right and left. This is the last thing I remember. Hypernova told me later that a fire cultist cast fireball twice and it knocked out me and Lalia. But the guards helped and chased him down. This might just have been me losing consciousness, but the fire cultist started to blur. Ander came over and healed me.

Before I lost consciousness, I remember panthers attacking the fire cultist!? I am really sorry if my thoughts are jumbled; I am remembering as I write. It is hard being knocked out and then asked to remember it…

Princes of the Apocalypse #13: The Monastery Incursion

In a missing chapter of our tale, the party had a nightmarish dream sequence before finding some lacedons (aquatic ghouls) beneath Rivergard Keep. In this chapter narrated by the party druid, Isaac, the party finally makes a breakthrough at the Sacred Stone Monastery. (-GM)

29th of Mirtul, 1491 Dale Reckoning

By Hypernova Starfall

We enter the room in which we’d previously slain the umber hulk. And then Reaper summons a minor illusion of Lalia screaming. (Somebody shoot me please.) Reaper also viciously mocks the air.

“Dumbass,” Lalia says.

I am meanwhile studying my Shadowbook. Also, Lalia tries to disable a nonexistent lock. She fails miserably at covering it up. We begin arguing over sources of light.

We enter a pitch-black room which is then illuminated by my staff tip. Ander, a burly paladin, stands in front. We walk down a long, dusty hallway. The unlocked bronze door swings open as Ander tries to unlock it. We enter a musty room full of skeletons (which are in little niches in the wall). Slabs with still-fleshy corpses on them lie around.

And then the corpses lurch forward, their empty eyes glinting with murder.

Princes of the Apocalypse #12: Beneath the Earth

In a missing chapter of our tale, the party had a nightmarish dream sequence before finding some lacedons (aquatic ghouls) beneath Rivergard Keep. In this chapter narrated by the party druid, Isaac, the party finally makes a breakthrough at the Sacred Stone Monastery. (-GM)

27th of Mirtul, 1491 Dale Reckoning

Episode 1: Greatest Victories of Princes of the Apocalypse
Scenario: Confronted and flanked by 9 or 10 monks, a monk spellcaster, stone warrior, and one monk with especially high heels that are very sharp vs. the adventurers.

I sincerely remember the moment when Lalia charged up to the high-heeled lady and got attacked.

The battle started right before I cast conjure animals and spawned 8 snakes that went for their spell caster and stone warrior. The spell caster said weird words and everyone felt slow for second, but some of my companions and I shook it off.

The monks charged us in the back and took out Hypernova by knocking him unconscious. The party fought back with tremendous strength. Then their spell caster tried to blow off my snake’s ear drums with the shatter spell, but most of the snakes resisted. I sincerely remember the moment when Lalia charged up to the high-heeled lady and got attacked. Lalia looked very battered from my vantage point, and the lady almost stumbled by the huge impact of the sword’s slash.

I spawned some big eagles to help us, but only 2 minutes in, it was looking like a resounding victory for us. The funniest part was when one monk was running for it, he got grappled by a snake and killed.

Princes of the Apocalypse #10: A River Stained with Blood

rivergard-keepThe party followed the trail southeast in search of the missing youths. It led them to Larch Path in the Sumber Hills… (-GM)

23rd of Mirtul, 1491 Dale Reckoning

I’ve tried to start keeping a journal. This is Entry 001.

It’s 2:00 a.m., and I hear noises coming from below the camp we made. Only the monk Zenyatta stands up.

I power up a blast of telekinesis up, casting the area in a brilliant blue chroma. I search the area, trying to find the source of the noises. Four jackalweres burst out, jaws dripping with blood, their eyes flashing.

As one, the party and I attack, whether sword or spell. Zenyatta bashes one, breaking its jaw, felling one. Isaac sends a thunderwave out, accidentally catching Zenyatta in it.

“Seriously– OOF!” Zenyatta yells as he slams into the wall. Isaac proceeds to heal the wounded elf.

Papyrus advances on the jackalweres and blasts out a furious pulse of lightning, blasting Zenyatta again. Lalia stabs another of them with her rapiers.

Meanwhile, I unleash a beam of telekinesis at the last one, missing. I curse. Suddenly Lalia collapses, unconscious.

A jackalwere tries to stab Papyrus, but misses.

Meanwhile Zenyatta punches one, missing wildly. The second and third hit, however. The jackalwere cries out in agony.

Isaac heals Zenyatta. While Papyrus stabs a jackalwere. Lalia stands and draws a circle in a jackalwere’s gut with her sword.

Meanwhile, I shove my dagger down a jackalwere’s throat, and Deskarilet stabs his sword through a jackalwere’s chin.

Zenyatta shoves his shortsword down the last jackalwere’s throat, slamming both fists in to its ribcage. The jackalwere staggers back. Isaac finishes it off with a flame blade.

I make a feast out of a jackalwere’s liver. We loot the creatures.

We continued along the trail, and I learn astronomy on the way.

We shall find the hidden shrines, of Besilmer.

We see a massive keep by the river.

We talk to a guard.

Uneventful, in a word.

Also, a like, 2000 year old bro is in love with Papyrus.

– Hypernova (Joaquin)

rivergard-keep2
The keep is called Rivergard Keep, and we enter.

The guards lead us across the courtyard to their leader Jolly. We see a small shrine. There is a giant vulture.

We see Windharrow, who pretends not to know Papyrus. She is devastated!

We fought the king and killed stuff. Many guards were brutally mauled, and Jolly turned into a wereboar. We killed him and got 100 gp, a scroll of haste, and a scroll of wall of water.

We see Windharrow, who pretends not to Know Papyrus. as he leaves, he winks at us. In the center of the keep we meet with Jolly, the king of the keep. He keeps calling for food as we pester him about the missing youths. We accuse him of taking them, and he calls in many guards and his aide turns into a water snake, who tries to strangle Lalia.

-Lalia (Raul)

The party defeats Jolly and finds itself the leader of a keep… of thugs and pirates!? What will happen next? Tune in next time!

Princes of the Apocalypse #9: Ogres, Trolls and… Buckets?

The party once again tries to take on the monastery with earth cultists inside it, but this time with help from Feathergale Spire. The residents of the monastery again put up a tough fight. (-GM)

22nd of Mirtul, 1491 Dale Reckoning

bucket

Meanwhile, Papyrus was putting on a performance of nude dancing and contaminated the water bucket for the well on accident.

The party stood in Red Larch’s Town Square. We voted to go to the nearby town of Westbridge, and to take the main road to entice bandits to come after us so we could defeat them and claim the bounty of ten gold per bandit head.

On the first night, a group of orcs brutally attacked us. We defeated them, and Rogue Eldritch Knight made pauldrons out of their brutally mauled skulls while Monk took their teeth for unknown reasons. The second night happened without event, but in the morning, we were attacked by two ogres. In this battle, Deskarilet cut a slit in one of them and Monk stuck his fists up their butt. Lalia was a blur of motion and kept sneak attacking the ogres. In the end, we defeated them and Monk took their teeth.

We went on to Westbridge, and Rogue Eldritch Knight taught some kids how to speak Rat, while Monk and Isaac gave people roasted rabbit and goodberries. Meanwhile, Papyrus was putting on a performance of nude dancing and contaminated the water bucket for the well on accident. She then pooped in it and Rogue Eldritch Kight incinerated it.

troll

Helga the Troll

The townsfolk forced us to get a bucket from a troll named Helga, but when we fought her she kept healing herself. We finally used fire on her so that she couldn’t heal and she toppled over, dead. Inside her cave, we found three buckets, three spell scrolls, two potions of healing, and a ****load of money.

Princes of the Apocalypse #8: A Brick Wall

The party once again tries to take on the monastery with earth cultists inside it, but this time with help from Feathergale Spire. The residents of the monastery again put up a tough fight. (-GM)

11th of Mirtul, 1491 Dale Reckoning

monksWe started by traveling back to the temple. Over there, we sought high ground to find other entrances and see what the whole temple was like. We saw two side entrances. As we snuck back around, two monks from the monastery attacked us. One of them decided to go back for help. We killed the monk in 3 or 4 rounds.

As we went around to the front, 6 or 7 more monks attacked us. We fought. Two thunder waves were cast. I fled a little, but came back to help. We eventually fought off the monks.

Afterward, we ventured into the temple a little bit more. On the right, we saw a monster. We fled down the other passageway as our rogue Lalia jammed the lock. Two duergars appeared right in front of us. We fought them and Isaac cast heat metal on one of them. Then two more duergars and an enlarged one appeared in front of us. So we were fighting five normal duergars and an enlarged one. We eventually defeated them when another unknown monster started coming toward us. We ran.

Papyrus’ boyfriend, Windharrow, also left because he had business to do. So we returned to Red Larch.
