Journal Entry #1: My story

I was born in Sandpoint, but what I awoke to was something different: the cool breeze on my face, the rustling of leaves and the rays of sun interrupted by the green leaves of the canopy above m

A calm face picked me up and said everything was going to be alright. The strange person had pointed ears and long blond hair in a ponytail. Her body was covered in studded leather and a bow was strung behind her back, the bow constantly rocking back and forth and the leather of her armor squeaking at the extra weight. She took me to her small little house, its wooden walls green with moss, the sunlight glittering on it, a plume of smoke rising from a chimney at the top of a thin roof of wooden planks and thatch. The grass rustled underneath her steps and we entered the cottage. I later grew up with her. She taught me how to hunt and use a bow and glaive. She named me Inigo and her name was Shalelu Andosana.

One night I was out hunting for our seasonal trade, and a tiger bounded right up to me. The creature was elegant and beautiful; its orange and black stripes flashed as the moon lit up the sky of leaves. Its bone white teeth glimmered in the flashing lights, and it nuzzled against me. Its fur was so soft. It followed me home, and Shalelu just told me to keep it, her calm attitude calmed me down, and soon the tiger became my hunting friend. Shalelu and I went on a trip to Magnimar to sell skins and buy equipment. After a four-day journey, we returned with my newly named glaive, Hornsuela, and a morningstar just in case we needed it . It was now my 18th birthday and with a quick celebration, I was given a breastplate and a badge with a leaf on it. Its shiny metal reminded me of the purpose I was given: to protect the woods.

Journal Entry #2: Where I am now

Six years later, I am living in a self-made house not too far from Shalelu with my tiger. I have made good friends with a half-elf named Jaden, a ranger almost who trained just like me and has told me of his wonderful adventures with his group of friends as well as his newlywed wife. I hear tales of how they captured a goblin fortress north of the town as well as how they went exploring in ancient tunnels where their friend Sanguinia drank some evil water. (I still laugh at the thought!) I have worked up tales of my own, but those are for another time — maybe I should put them in my book as examples? This past year, I have been going on the occasional hunt with Shalelu but most of my work is focused on my book, a bestiary for the forests of Sandpoint. So far, I have categorized most of the creatures that live there. Shalelu takes a lot of credit for these because of her time spent in the woods.

Journal Entry #3: The letter

I have received a letter from Jaden explaining how he has fallen ill and how he has called on me to help his group of adventurers as they once again are about to set out on an adventure, and how I would be a welcome presence . I was hesitant at first, but I felt as if I was well equipped enough to handle the adventures at hand. The stories I’ve heard excite me even more, and I pack my bags tonight.
