Age of Worms #3: Death by Indigo

18 Aug

The party loses another of its own. Are we doomed to see the Age of Worms? (-GM)

7th day of Gozran, 4741 AR

His stubbornness had no bounds, and he continued to fight as the wind blew faster and faster…

The cave was damp and a smell of mold lingered in the air, tainting it with a foul odor. Our group saw the sarcophagus pointing towards the blue lantern. We climbed up, lingering on the edge while Nimbus climbed over the lip. On the wall ahead of him, he saw a plain-looking face, one we had never seen before. He approached it without caution, curiosity overwhelming all rational thought. Soon, cool air began to rush through the tunnel. He tried to fight it and was slowly pushed back. But his stubbornness had no bounds, and he continued to fight as the wind blew faster and faster. It was only a matter of time until he was pushed over the ledge and fell down the small shaft.

He didn’t die, but this fall was not a pleasant one. We pushed onward and rotated the sarcophagus toward the indigo lantern. A pillar rose, doors opened, and inside it were some smashed bones. Nimbus had the excellent idea to walk straight into it. Naturally the ceiling smashed down and crushed his body to dust. Another tick on the list of the dead.

The group had a moment of silence and got our newest member, a ranger by the name of Noway Amagonadai. We all went back and followed Harry’s lead: a dead lizardfolk with a segmented green worm in its skull, with tracks leading to a second cairn.

Moving into the dark crevasse, we saw giant centipedes crawling around in the bodies of the dead. They moved at us, but were easily dispatched. Then, pressing ahead, there was a clearing with a balcony and a shoddy stairway to climb up to the top. There, lizardfolk gathered with spears and swords.

Up ahead, we heard voices in Draconic. They hissed out, “The treasssssure is ourssssss. Give it to usssssss now!”

We came at them together. I climbed up quickly and began to stab the creatures. They died upon my blade like countless others, corpses sizzling with electricity and boiling blood. The group moved farther in, fighting occasional lizardfolk until we came upon the final room. There, odd statues and items stood before the mouth to the room. Up ahead, we heard voices in Draconic. They hissed out, “The treasssssure is ourssssss. Give it to usssssss now!”

Sadly, we don’t take orders from reptiles. I ran forward, sparks and blades flying. One by one, the party dispatched the creatures. We found a chest that we bashed open to find Gold and potions. Our quest for the day was complete.
