RPG Adventures in DECEMBER!
(Students: a parent must reach me for you to sign up!)
In case you missed my Thanksgiving RPG invitation: I also run adventures separately from the King afterschool program on the weekends and during holiday breaks. In contrast to the afterschool program where I must attend to the needs of a large classroom and mentor young “game masters” (GMs), I personally GM these adventures and can raise the quality and immersion of the game! I have found that the weekend RPGs expose students to a more exciting, even transcendent experience and prompts them to use more fully the skills that quality tabletop RPGs can awaken: roleplaying, storytelling, strategy, creative problem-solving, and teamwork. It is also a chance to play with their new friends outside of school in their favorite game!
This letter is to inform you of these upcoming home RPG opportunities:
- I am running a short HORROR campaign (6 sessions) during the winter break, The Haunting of Harrowstone! (More info below.) I will coordinate with parents to have six five-hour sessions both before and after Christmas. If you are interested in The Haunting of Harrowstone, please contact me at email@example.com or (510) 384-8859 by Sunday, December 8. Priority is given to those who respond first
- Also, two esteemed graduates of my rigorous Tabletop RPG afterschool program are now 9th graders at Berkeley High and will be GMing an extended campaign starting January 2016: the Pathfinder-meets-Science-Fiction adventure path Iron Gods! I can vouch for Simon Grundy-Reiner and Salvatore Harkins as excellent gamemasters (of course; I taught them!). They are prepared, imaginative, and enthusiastic. (There is more information on the Iron Gods Adventure Path below.) If you are interested, respond to the letter I will send out the last week before Winter Break, which will have a link to the online application to sign-up for Iron Gods and other longer campaigns that will start in January. Also, consider joining the Simon’s and Salvatore’s We Be Goblins session below!
- As a preview for when Simon and Salvatore run Iron Gods, they will run a single-session adventure called We Be Goblins. Yes, the players get to be goblins! (More info below.) The insanity ensues on Sunday, December 13, 12-5pm. If you are interested in We Be Goblins, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (510) 384-8859 by Sunday, December 8. Priority is given to those who respond first.
The session fee is optional if it is a child’s first session with that game master or gamemastering team. Sessions are five hours, and mine are $30 each, while Salvatore’s and Simon’s are $20 each. We ask parents to take turns hosting sessions and to provide food and refreshments; most groups of parents have agreed to donating to hosts to cover the cost of food.
Let me know if you have any questions!

We Be Goblins!
(GMs: Salvatore + Simon, 1 session Sunday Dec. 13, 12-5pm)
You get to BE GOBLINS in this adventure! Here is a description:
Chase the baby, catch the pup
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
WE BE GOBLINS! YOU BE FOOD!
The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure—fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member who found them has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh. In order to prove themselves as the Licktoads’ bravest goblins, the PCs must complete a series of dangerous dares…
Haunting of Harrowstone
(GM: Ronald, six five-hour sessions running between Dec. 19 and Jan. 2, schedule to be organized with parents, Levels 2-4)
I will run a HORROR adventure during the Winter Break! We will meet in dark rooms, by candle light if possible, and I will provide spooky aural atmospherics. This is not an adventure for the faint of heart!
When Harrowstone Prison burned to the ground, prisoners, guards, and a host of vicious madmen met a terrifying end. In the years since, the nearby town of Ravengro has shunned the fire-scarred ruins, telling tales of unquiet spirits that wander abandoned cellblocks. But a mysterious evil disturbs Harrowstone’s tenuous spiritual balance and threatens to consume the nearby village in madness and flames. Can the adventurers discover the secrets of Harrowstone and quell the dead? Or will they be the spirit-prison’s next inmates?
Starting January 2016: Iron Gods!
(GMs: Salvatore + Simon, long campaign)
Do you like chocolate with your peanut butter? Do you like lasers, robots, and doomsday devices in your Fantasy? If the answer is yes, then the Iron Gods Adventure Path is for you! The adventure starts at Level 1 and will run to its exciting conclusion at Level 17! (Students are expected to continue with the campaign at least through early June):
Numeria has a long history of mystery and wonder buried under its rugged landscape, for on that one fateful night thousands of years ago, the Rain of Stars scarred the land. The fragmented remnants of a ship from beyond the stars fell from the sky, scattering strange technological ruins and deadly perils across the land. Today, these sites are feared by the barbaric tribes and coveted by the sinister spellcasters of the Technic League. Yet something worse than brutish berserkers or super-science wizards has risen to power in these hidden technological halls… From small Numerian towns to strange technological ruins to the region’s infamous capital of Starfall—and perhaps beyond—the Iron Gods Adventure Path will take your heroes into places unlike any seen before!
