30th day of Lamashan, 4715 AR
After that horrendous night of almost no sleep, we decided to go back to the Mouth of Doom. But I had heard some rumors in town about the Mouth of Doom, so we decided to go back to town to see what people thought of it.
We heard plenty of outrageous tales, clearly untrue. Why, I even heard that ten days after visiting the Mouth of Doom, supposedly we would die! We realized there wasn’t anything to gain from this and decided to go investigate a trading route called The Old Path that no one had been seen on for a while.
As we traveled down it, I noticed a large fort-like building on our left. But then, we heard a voice coming down from the heavens, saying “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!” And we decided, well, that it may not be the best idea to go explore this area.
We went back to our house, which at this point was nearly finished, to decide what to do next. After some debate about getting horses and other nearly useless pets, we decided to go back to the Mouth of Doom and try to complete our map of the area.
We returned and set about looking into rooms with skulls and other vile thing in them. One had a secret door leading into another room, in which we saw a door leading to yet another room. In this one, there was odd green slimy stuff that was glopping down from the ceiling to the ground, then going back up the walls. Gaige, the ninja, decided to poke at it with his
10 9½ foot long pole, and it started smoldering. We looked around the room for a way to go through unharmed, when we noticed that the ceiling was quite weak-looking and had large cracks which were disgorging the slime. We fired a couple of arrows into it and John Sena’s Brother shot a bullet, and sure enough it collapsed inward, filling the room with rubble, and conveniently covering up that unpleasant looking slime. We started clambering over it, when I noticed a small face looking at us from the other end of the room.
I yelled, “Hey! What are you doing here?”, and it might have been a little too intimidating, because it made some odd noises and then ran away squealing. We decided to pursue it and following it lead us to a hallway that our mappers quickly jotted down as they were running. We caught up to it, and we saw it squeal once, then angrily point at us.
From around the corner we saw about 5 more of the things (which I now know are kobolds), pulling out javelins. We charged up and did battle with the foul beasts (which aren’t actually that bad) and by the end of the battle, it was clear that we had been victorious.
One had survived and after some heated conversation, we decided it would be our pet. We left the dungeon to return home, and when we got there me and Vv decided to brush up on our languages, so we could communicate with it. We learned how to bury its kinfolk (in mud), and we learned that he just wanted to fish, so now he resides in a small hut next to our house, and he fishes and catches rabbits while we are out.
We ventured back to the dungeon because the map still wasn’t done. After various twists and turns, we found ourselves in a room with many shallow wells with water in them. There was also a small gap in one of the walls, out of which could be heard leathery flapping noises. We were ambushed by a group of small leathery creatures that decided to stick their long appendages into me and I was weakened significantly. We fought them fiercely though, and eventually we triumphed.
We looked into their room and found their nests, which we burned. We found some shiny trinkets around the room, and when I approached one the small wells, I was immediately running away, though I didn’t know why. We returned to our house so I could rest and we could sell the trinkets. That’s all I have time to write for now though.
