20th day of Sarenith, 4713 AR

skull-crossbones5During the fight, the bite of one of the feral creatures caused Leonardo to fall asleep and have disturbing visions…

The party started off the day on the deck of their ship.  The crew members were chatting amongst themselves, when suddenly, overhead, an enormous eagle swooped over them!  As it descended, the crew could make out that, a small amphibious man was clutched in the bird’s talons.

The eagle dove lower, and it was then that the crew noticed the man was screaming to the eagle, “Drop me there.  No, there!  On that ship!  Too far, too far!”  The eagle dropped the man, and flew off squawking some noise that sounded like a chuckle.  The man fell down, down, down, and plopped into the water right next to the ship.

Gavid Doins, long time no see, huh?” said Leonardo.  Jacinth Deepwarder stomped up  to Gavid, then, suddenly, Gavid licked her face.

“Who the hell are you and what are you doing on our ship?” Jacinth screamed.

“I am Gavid Doins, the grippli (and don’t get me confused with that printer of the town David Goins).  I am a very experienced healer, and a friend of yours, Leonardo, is my very own cousin.  I come from Port Shaw seeking adventure!  Now if that’s a good enough introduction for you, street performer, we best be on our way to the island that I overheard you talking about!”

[So endeth Jackson’s account, and here beginneth the account of the Grandmaster…]

Gavid, as a cleric, cast water walk, which allowed the party of himself, Jacinth, Leonardo, and Fawkes to traverse the rocky shoals hugging the shore. But before they reached the shore, they fought off several draugrs led by an undead sea captain.

On the shore, they found a clearing in the jungle, but were soon attacked by feral-looking, vaguely-human creatures that were insane with rage. During the fight, the bite of one of the creatures caused Leonardo to fall asleep and have disturbing visions. They were very tough, and the party only could survive with Fawkes’ spiked chain, Leonardo’s gun, and Gavid’s healing.

They went inside the jungle and followed a roughly-cleared path. At the end, they heard drums and saw more of these native creatures banging drums. They were all old, female, and pregnant. Jacinth recognized the young nobles she had sailed out with — they were nude and dancing feverishly around some altar that had baby human bones in it!

Gavid started battle with a fireball, and the party destroyed the creatures quickly. But soon they heard a voice in their heads that spoke to them as they were assaulted by savage visions and feelings. The voice said they may leave safely, but only if they left behind one man and one woman. The party decided to rescue all the nobles — who had no idea where they were and were aggressively pawing at them — and ran full speed with these naked nobles back toward the ship.

On the way, a creeping mass of vines and plant matter grabbed members of the party with its tentacles and started to squeeze Leonardo in a death grip! The others pushed some of the nobles to, erm… tackle the shambling mound, which distracted it for a while.

In their toughest battle yet, the party barely survived! But, sadly, Joshua Bonedeuce — distant cousin of the head of the Dragoons — perished in the battle. The woman who had helped tackled the shambling mound grappled Gavid and pinned him to the ground, but he broke free by critical-shoving her into a jungle tree! The party collected their belongings, the nobles, and headed back toward the ship.

Yep, though the ship is a bit offshore because of the rocky shoals in the way.

Been lurking for a bit on your blog and glad to see that you guys enjoyed the adventure so far. If you make it to Gencon stop by the FFG booth, and you can chat it up with me.

Hey Tom! (Folks, this is the guy who wrote the island adventure you’re currently on!) We’re all in California and won’t make it to GenCon. 😦

But I will recommend Heart of the Razor as a useful addition to the original Razor Coast book, since 5th-level characters kind of have little to do otherwise and it has the very-cool Tulita rebellion encounter! (I just up a review at the book’s website! And to my players, NO READING IT! It has spoilers!)

Oh btw the party decided last night to drop the nobles off back at Port Shaw and to buy magic items to fully explore the island. Can you guess what it was about the ancient elven laboratory they wanted to check out?

(The prospect of LOOT. Of course!!)

Yes! Muahaha. Oh and Tom, the whale DID succeed at sinking their ship. Stay tuned for the next exciting installment!

Oh that pesky whale. If only he had his Captain Ahab to torment…wait a second. But thanks for the shout out. I’ll be running this adventure myself at Gencon this year, so it’s good to get some ideas of what the players liked from your campaign posts.

In other words, he liked it! lol

I blame it actually on the players who tarried on the beach and did nothing while Fluffy screamed that they needed help. Only half the party was close enough to fight off the whale.
