Should we be allowed to re-roll our scores (if we want to) when we level up?

05 Dec

I was just thinking, and I realized that a lot of people aren’t happy with their ability scores. This way, you could re-roll, but only once every time you leveled up, so it would limit you perfectly. Post a comment with your opinion.

Hey our first non-Ronald post! (yay)

Well, first to say what the current rule is. If your character dies in the Guild, your next character is created with a 20-point buy. (See this page under “Ability Scores” for how to do that, and this online point-buy calculator is useful.) AND… if your character’s ability scores are currently NOT a 20-point buy, you can throw them in the trash and re-do them with a 20-point buy.

The reason why I chose it was to make it pointless to suicide your characters, and to make sure no one dominates (or is useless) just because of how they rolled on their first day. As to why I picked 20 points, that’s the average of what everyone has rolled.

If a GM starts a Campaign (outside the “Adventurers Group”, which is where all our short adventures have been so far), then that GM can make his own rules for ability scores, Advanced Race Guide, etc., etc.

In that case, when someone levels up, could they redo their 20 point buy? (Maybe with an extra point every time)

You can do 20 point buy right now. Pathfinder makes it so you can add +1 to an ability score at every 4th level. So you can put an odd number in a score right now (say a 19 charisma for example), then when you hit 4th level (very soon!) turn that into a 20. (Which by the way is like having FOUR more points in point-buy.)

(Damn this is a record-breaking day for the website… over 200 views and counting!)
